The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) regretfully announces the passing of retired Firefighter Declan A. Grant, Ladder 48, on April 15, 2026. He was 55 years old. Firefighter Grant’s life and career were marked by courage, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to public service, leaving a lasting legacy in the firefighting community.

Appointed on February 4, 1996, Firefighter Grant served the Department with pride for 27 years until his retirement on January 26, 2023. Throughout his career, he was known not only for his professionalism but also for his compassion, teamwork, and devotion to helping others. His colleagues remember him as a steadfast presence, always ready to answer the call and provide support to both his fellow firefighters and the communities he served.

Firefighter Grant was among the brave men and women who responded to the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center, displaying extraordinary courage in the face of unprecedented challenges. His dedication during that critical time exemplified the selflessness and heroism that define the firefighting profession. The sacrifices he made, along with his lifelong service, will forever be honored and remembered.

Wake services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, NY 10709. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 10:45 AM at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 409 E 241st Street, Bronx, NY 10470.
